Abstract

Retorikkforskere har generelt vært lite opptatt av organisasjoners retorikk. Dette virker desto mer merkelig all den tid korporasjonen har vokst fram som det moderne samfunns mektigste institusjon. Det trengs økt fokus på den strategiske kommunikasjonen til denne og andre typer organisasjoner. I denne artikkelen presenterer og kritiserer Øyvind Ihlen den retoriske forskningen innenfor forskningsområdet informasjon & samfunnskontakt (’public relations’). For å bøte på den instrumentelle ensrettingen i forskningen argumenterer han for en kritisk-retorisk tilnærming. For å ta i tu med et svakt ontologisk fundament foreslår han å trekke på sosiologisk teori om ressurser.

Øyvind Ihlen, Universitetet i Oslo

Øyvind Ihlen er dr.art. i medievitenskap og jobber som forsker ved Institutt for medier og kommunikasjon, Universitetet i Oslo og førsteamanuensis ved Høgskolen i Hedmark. En hoveddel av hans forskning dreier seg om retoriske og sosiologiske innfallsvinkler til informasjon & samfunnskontakt (’public relations’). Ihlen har også gitt ut læreboka Informasjon & samfunnskontakt – perspektiver og praksis (Fagbokforlaget, 2004) sammen med Per Robstad.
