Abstract

Dette essay “har haft en større og mere vedholdende indflydelse på udviklingen af retorisk kritik og offentlig talekunst end noget andet enkelt arbejde publiceret i dette århundrede”. Således skrev retorikforskeren Donald C. Bryant i 1958 om dette nummers klassiker: artiklen som fødte den neo-aristoteliske metode inden for retorikken. Ved at understrege ­retorikkens virkelighedsnære situationsbundethed og orientere den retoriske kritik mod talens virkning hos de faktiske tilhørere bidrog Wichelns væsentligt til udskillelsen af retorik som et selvstændigt fag fra litterturvidenskab. Oversat til dansk og introduceret af Lisa Storm Villadsen.
