Tor Ulvens dikt i lys av Longinos
En kvalitativ undersøkelse av den sublime leseopplevelsen

Hvordan kan begrepet om det sublime bidra til å forstå en lesers livsendrende leseopplevelse, og hvordan kan kvalitative intervjuer av vanlige lesere gi oss økt innsikt i det sublime? Artikkelen presenterer en single-case undersøkelse av en lesers transformative opplevelse av Tor Ulvens dikt. Tidligere empirisk forskning på livsendrende leseopplevelser har fokusert på udelt positive virkninger og hvordan lesingen hjalp leseren gjennom en krise. Den overveldende leseopplevelsen som snarere ser ut til å utløse en krise, har ikke vært belyst. Tilfellet blir diskutert i lys av to passasjer fra Longinos’ Det opphøyde i litteraturen, hvor begrepene ekplexis og hypsos relateres til psykologisk forskning på akkomodasjon, emosjoner og transformasjonsprosesser. Det argumenteres for at viktige betydninger av disse begrepene har blitt borte i det sublimes virkningshistorie, og at det ekplektiske og det hypsotiske er anvendbare begreper for å forstå en leseopplevelse som var uventet, overveldende og samtidig oppløftende.
