Skammens retorik i indvandringsdebatten

Udtryk for skam er blevet fremtrædende i det offentlige rum. Det gælder særligt i udlændingedebatter, hvor borgere giver udtryk for at de skammer sig over hvordan nationen behandler indvandrere og flygtninge eller anklager andre for at de burde skamme sig over denne behandling. Artiklen undersøger retorisk brug af skamappeller samt gensvar og modangreb på sådanne appeller i en måneds dansk pressedækning. Studiet etablerer fire former for retorisk skam og tre former for gensvar. De fire former for retorisk skam er: følt individuel skam, påført individuel skam, samt følt kollektiv skam og påført kollektiv skam. De tre former for gensvar er: henvise sagligt til faktuelle omstændigheder, modangreb på tone og debatstil, samt populistisk anklage om elite-adfærd. Analysen peger på at retorisk brug af skam i offentlig debat hverken er effektiv eller bidrager til en god debat i deliberativ forstand. Studiet antyder også at brugen af skam som retorisk performativt sprogspil over tid kan bidrage til en retorisk bearbejdning som former rammerne for politiske holdninger og handlinger.
